Which Monitors are available?
Of the hundreds if not thousands of Monitors, there are basically only 2 different Kinds. One is the Baby Sound Monitor and the other is the Baby Video Monitor. As the Name implies, the Sound Monitor lets you hear the Baby when you are away from the Room, while the Video Monitor allows you to watch the Baby from another Place within the Range of the Unit. The Baby Monitors can be hard wired or wireless. Digital Monitors give you better security, since they scramble the Signal and it is almost impossible for another device to pick up the Information, which can happen with analog. Analog also can have interference from other appliances in your House or even an old Telephone Line.
What Does a Baby Monitor Do?
The Baby Monitor notifies you of noise, such as the Baby waking up and can also have lights that flash and the louder the Noise the more Lights will flash.
If the Frequency of your Baby Monitor is the same as your Cell or other Units in the Home, it can cause Interference with the Baby Monitor, but you can find Monitors that use Digitally Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications, which are much less likely to have interference.
Batteries Versus Hard Wired Baby Monitors!
Batteries are convenient, but many do not last thru the Night, so a Baby Monitor plugged into an outlet seems to be a much better Solution. Make sure if you use Batteries to have a sensor on the Monitor to indicate when the Batteries are getting low! If your Baby Monitor is plugged into an outlet and you have other Children, make sure the Cord is safely out of the Way.
Also look for easily accessible Volume Control.
You can also find Monitors that have a temperature sensor to let you know if the room is too cold or too hot for your Baby to be comfortable.
